Get Outside Help
Step 8: Have someone else help with the process
There will probably be times when you or the other person involved is too emotional or too “close” to the problem. When you're too close, it is difficult to work out a fair and reasonable solution. In those cases, it can be very helpful to bring in a “third party."
A third party is someone who is not involved. They don't really care how the issue works out and can help you work it through to bring a solution.
A third party may be able to:
- help make sure everyone follows the ground rules
- brainstorm with you to help find fair solutions
- help each person see the situation from a different perspective.
Asking a third party to help out can be very helpful in the conflict resolution process. Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you can’t solve an issue on your own.
