Turn it Off
So how do we turn off the fight or flight reaction?
#1 Acknowledge it’s not bad
We have to acknowledge that the fight or flight reaction itself is not a bad thing. This high-alert response is meant to save us and it will, in the right situation.
#2 Acknowledge it’s normal
Acknowledge that it's normal to experience fear. Children much more easily acknowledge their fears, but we tend to lose that as we get older. We start to believe that fear is weakness or lack of control.
The most successful adults are the ones who recognize their fears. Instead of seeing fear as a weakness, they see it as a sign that they are doing something important, something brave, or something bold.
#3 Master your fear
Many people handle their fear poorly. We'll talk about some of the ways that you shouldn't handle fear and what you could do instead.
