There are many ways that a person can respond to this situation.
Earlier, you indicated that you would probably have the following responses:

    These are primarily responses.

    Hover over each image for examples of externalized (blaming others) and internalized (blaming self) responses.

    externalized blame Externalized Response You are annoyed with the person you are meeting because they chose a location so far away from your home. There were plenty of places closer, but for some reason you had to drive very far to this other place. If you had been going to a restaurant near your house, you would have been able to make it on time. internalized blame Internalized Response You are irritated with yourself for losing track of time. You knew that this restaurant was a thirty minute drive from your home. You knew that you would have to leave early to arrive on time.

    Not every response will be as black and white as the example.
    However, in general, people tend to either blame others or themselves.
    This tendency will be consistent in different situations.
