Sexual assault is generally recognized as unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature (including unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, nonverbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature, as well as harassment based on gender identity or nonconformity with sex stereotypes, and not necessarily involving conduct of a sexual nature).

Sexual assault is action perpetrated against someone's will or while they are incapable of giving consent.

State law includes specific definitions and penalties for sexual violence. Many campuses also have their own definitions. Click below for state and campus definitions (if applicable) for sexual assault, domestic and/or dating violence, and stalking.
