Marijuana-Wise

Marijuana comes in many forms. The flower or “bud” version of marijuana is the most “natural”, but the marijuana of 20 years ago is much different than the marijuana of today.

Marijuana is actually made up of over 500 chemical compounds, including over 100 cannabinoids. The potency of marijuana is usually judged based on the THC content of the preparation. THC is the chemical compound that creates the "high" generally associated with marijuana.

The average THC concentration in marijuana samples from 20 years ago was about 4%. Samples from recent years show average THC concentrations of about 12%. From 2011 to the end of the study, almost half of the samples had more than 12% THC. (ElSohly et al., 2016)
